deWiz Golf watch review: Read before you buy
Today we are going to do a deep dive into the newest deWiz golf watch. Did I just say watch? What I meant to say was gadget because this “swing modifier” does more than just tell time. With 5 major champions including Bryson DeChambeau, Henrik Stenson, and Vijay Singh now promoting the new gadget, it’s safe to say this could be something all aspiring golfers benefit from.
As a competitive golfer of 20+ years including 4+ years of hands-on collegiate tournament and team logistics experience, I’ve seen my fair share of tech through the years. I still remember when Brush-T’s broke the golf scene in 2000. (I still love those.)
That said, I’ve seen a lot of gimmicks, but deWiz is shocking—quite literally. This device is truly one of a kind and potentially groundbreaking technology. Because of that, I’m excited to share my recommendations and findings in this comprehensive deWiz Golf watch review.

But before I get into that, let’s look at the deWiz product features, cover what it is, and basic parameters.
Product details: What is deWiz Golf?
Who: deWiz Golf Swing Modifier
What: Golf wrist wearable
Price: $699 **Update 2/17/2024: deWiz reduced its price to $599**
Purpose: Analyze and modify your golf swing
How it analyzes your swing: With the device on your wrist during your swing, deWiz will collect a real-time analysis of 13 different data points gathered via the device and transferred to your phone for further analysis and in-app feedback.
Use this data to modify your swing to hit longer, straighter, and closer
How it modifies your swing: Using the deWiz Learning stimuli, you can set parameters. During a swing, if you are outside or fall short of those parameters, the device will send a real-time light shock to your wrist. You can also set up audio stimuli to indicate if you are within your parameters. Similar to when you win on a slot machine, the audio stimuli will chime if your swing is within the preset parameters.
Use this stimuli to modify your swing to hit longer, straighter, and closer.

Battery Life: 7 hours
Weight: 44g “lighter than your standard smartwatches”

A medium size fits most golfers. If you feel unsure, measure your wrist circumference and buy in either Small or Large.
So, how does the deWiz golf swing modifier work?
Click play on the video below:
Once you have the device on your wrist, download the deWiz iPhone or Android app. Getting the device paired and ready to use is pretty easy. If you have any trouble, follow these steps.
Once that device is paired and you’re ready, you will notice the homepage includes four different modes you can explore:
- Get Started: Learn about the app.
- Discovery: Swing and receive the data points.
- Practice & Learn: Swing and receive feedback.
- Challenge: Play games with friends.

With the deWiz watch the technology will record your swing then generate a 3D image you can view on your app. For many golfers who are visual learners like myself, it’s a nice feature. As long as your iPhone is in the bluetooth range of your device, the app will record. With each swing, the device will capture and the app will provide the following data points:
- Tempo:
- Backswing, downswing, ratio
- Start to impact, pause
- Length of backswing
- Backswing plane
- Max hand speed
- Max backswing width
- IDDx: (Initial Downswing Direction X- viewed down the line)
- IDDy: (Initial Downswing Direction Y- viewed from the face on angle)
- Steeping/ Shallowing

With this device, all its data, and 3D images, gone are the days of looking at your swing in the mirror, gone are the days of recording your swing, and—dare we say it?—gone are the days of technical golf coaches. The deWiz golf swing modifier could put many golf instructors out of a job. Now, of course, that is a bold statement and truthfully it will aid swing coaches more than it will hurt, but in the next few paragraphs, we’ll go into why that statement isn’t as crazy as you might think.
If you read the next two paragraphs, you might see why so many people believe deWiz will be the future of training aid.
The deWiz Learning Stimuli
Where this device sets itself apart is with the deWiz “Learning Stimuli” feature. To give you an example of this feature, let’s say you wanted to work on lengthening your swing.
With the Learning Stimuli feature turned on, during your backswing, if you stop short the wrist wearable will send a light tickle of stimuli to let you know you fell short of your preset parameters. The idea: associate bad habits with discomfort, to teach change. This biofeedback is the first of its kind and IMO revolutionary.

Does the Learning Stimuli hurt?
No. But with that said, you can also adjust the shock stimuli intensity on a scale of 1-7. According to co-founder Markus Westerberg, most people can’t even feel level 1-2. Markus uses level 4. Still worried? You can test out the stimuli levels before you activate it.
What’s the best way to use the deWiz on the golf course?
It’s very simple to use it on the course. I’d use it to figure out my tempo. After each shot, it would be nice to look at my phone and compare the outcome of the shot to the data feedback. Did I swing too fast? Was my backswing too short? Growing up, I would spend every second between shots thinking what I did or didn’t do right. This device would stop the hours spent guessing.
3 important things to note:
- If you are playing with others, you can turn off the audio stimuli feedback.
- Before each shot, you will have to adjust what club you are hitting. This can be tedious, but who doesn’t look at their phones between shots?
- As long as it’s in bluetooth range, it will record your swings. It is okay to store in your cart, pocket, or bag.
Can you use the deWiz in tournament competition?
Yes—but check with local officials before play. The PGA Tour approved it was within the rules of golf. To be legal, the app has to be in “stealth mode,” and the feedback cannot be enabled until after the round. VIjay Singh was the first tour player to use it at a tour sanctioned event in the fall of 2022.
deWiz vs Competitors
We are not affiliated with deWiz. Simply put, we see the potential. We also like that the company is well funded so we expect to see the company continue its growth. Finally, we like that it is not a cheap product rushed to market. In fact, it took engineers 4 years to develop the software and testing prototypes.
We picked a few comparable devices, swing analyzers, and monitors to give you some options so you can make an informed decision before buying.
- Hackmotion
- $495.00
- Best direct competitor
- DeWiz is the Gatorade of swing modifiers; this is the Powerade.
- Blast Motion
- $179.95
- Swing analyzer and app tracked from the butt of your club
- Arccos 360
- $179.99
- Best for shot tracking and figuring out club distances
- SkyTrak Launch monitor
- $2,1445.95
- Launch monitor best for swing data
- Compared to trackman
Is deWiz worth it?
Yes and no.
When it comes to training philosophies, I have recently gone through a drastic mindset shift. If you scroll through my training P&L, historically, you will find I’ve been one who wants every data point, every angle for swing analysis, and all the coaching tips Youtube can feed me. “Know everything” was the philosophy but did this make me a better golfer? Can I get too deep in the weeds? As of recently, I’ve swayed to the “ignorance is bliss” side of things.
Who is it for?
If you are an avid golfer (say, maybe single digits handicap), you dedicate yourself to getting better, you live for the weekend rounds, you have a nice cushy job with some disposable income, you often find yourself on the range as the sun goes down, all your social media platforms are littered with golf memes, and maybeee you don’t have kids, I would definitely consider this device.
This device is not solely for good golfers, it is for any golfer who is investing a lot of time into getting better, but it is ideal for scratch golfers trying to gain that 1% advantage.
Look at it this way: It’s a fixed cost for a lifetime’s worth of real swing analysis. If you told me I could pay $700 for lifetime lessons with the course pro, I’d be an idiot to pass on that, right? I see this as being similar. And IMO that $700 is much nicer than a subscription model like other sports wearables are doing.
Is this device beneficial for golf instructors?
Last week, I went to Fleet Feet to get new running shoes. I was impressed with their 3D scanning outfitting process. Instead of the salesperson randomly picking shoes for me to try on, she used the 3D scanner to measure my foot dimensions and gait analysis. She then used that scan and her knowledge of my running history to recommend shoes.
Does the scanner put the shoe salesperson out of business? Absolutely not—it helps her to derive better hypotheses and suggest data-driven solutions rather than eyeballing it. Similarly, this is why I would recommend the deWiz for ALL golf instructors. This will give you a leg up against competing swing coaches.
Who is it not for?
Certain advice and lessons are only good at the right times. If you are beginning your golf journey, or you maybe don’t put much time into practice, this device is not for you.
If you identify as a mid to low handicapper and you have $700 to spend, I would much rather you get a new set of brand recognized irons that could last you 5-10 years.
Better yet, 10 lessons for $70 each from a local pro. Do that before you buy the deWiz. Why?
Case in point: On this device, there is a “transition” mode. In this mode, you will find out the plane of your swing and how many centimeters you are over or under that plane on the transition. If you are 8cm over the top on the transition, do you know what that means? Do you have drills to correct it based on your current skill level? The Learning Stimuli will tell if you’re off but It won’t factor in your stance. It won’t factor in your hips. It won’t factor in your head movement.
I would suggest you get more rounds in, have fun, hit the range, putting contests with friends or maybe even try a more affordable wearable. For new golfers, I would suggest two of my favorite sources for golfing tips. Youtube and a friend. Remember, you didn’t ask your brother for his bicycle training certification when you asked him to teach you how to ride a bike. You just need someone a little better than you, a few good tips, and some good patience. You can do it.
deWiz Golf watch review bottomline: Should you buy this swing modifier?
To get better at golf, you have to do more than just spend hours mindlessly hitting golf balls on the driving range. You have to practice with purpose. The deWiz swing modifier significantly increases efficiency on the range and decreases the time you spend in your head wondering, what am I doing wrong?.
Many skeptics will call the Learning Stimuli a gimmick. Whether that is true or not, we will end with this: If the device only offered the visual 3D images and swing data this device would STILL be worth buying. The Stimuli is gravy on top, like playing with house money.
